Your Actions: Where Fear and Faith Meet

Faith jumps! That’s how I explained the word “faith” to thousands of Army Rangers and paratroopers over the years. Faith is more than putting on a parachute, boarding an airplane, and flying around with the doors open.
Those things show that you believe certain facts about the parachute. But real faith does more than agree with the facts. Real faith puts the parachute to the test. Real faith jumps!
If faith never changes a decision, leads to obedience, challenges your comfort, or redirects your path, it may be only an idea. It has not yet become trust in action.
There are many reasons people struggle to put faith into practice. In this article, I want to focus on one of the biggest reasons: fear.
Fear and faith can exist in the same heart at the same time—but they’re going to cause a fight! You don’t have to be fearless to take a step of faith. Usually, faith means choosing the next action even when you’re struggling with uncertainty.

Fear of Change
Putting faith into action takes courage and often leads you into uncharted territory. It means sacrificing comfort, breaking new ground, and risking the familiar. Even with unwavering conviction in what’s right, fear of the unknown can hold you back.
Fear of Failure
“What if I try and fail?” Many hesitate because they fear failure. Yet throughout the Bible, faith is portrayed as an act of courage. It’s not merely a thought but a deliberate step forward that turns belief into action. Faith challenges you. It calls you to jump out of the airplane with confidence and hope.
Fear of Rejection
Sometimes, you know the right thing to do, yet the fear of being misunderstood, criticized, or excluded holds you back. Remember, real faith isn’t about seeking approval or proving your worth. Good deeds don’t earn grace; they naturally flow from it. Let your actions speak of the work that Jesus has already done in your heart—and others will take notice.
Fear of Losing Something
Faith invites you to release your illusions of security and control. Your actions don’t create true faith—they reveal it. What you do shows what you really trust. Let your behavior be a neon sign of your unwavering belief.
Many people hold deep beliefs, but they struggle to live them out in everyday life. Fear creates a gap between faith and action. Keep in mind that people don’t move from belief to action in one big step. More often, it happens through small, consistent steps. That’s why they’re called “steps of faith.”
Faith truly shines brightest when you live it out in your everyday life—through your choices, relationships, habits, and acts of service. Just like a parachute is only tested when you jump, your faith shows its strength when you dare to act on it. Remember, your actions are the wonderful evidence of your faith’s real power.
